Are you ready for mayhem caused by US government?? Well, you better be in case they ever approve the Internet Gambling Bill. A group of people expect the Internet Gambling Bill to cause similar effects as Prohibition.
Are you ready for mayhem caused by US government?? Well, you better be in case they ever approve the Internet Gambling Bill.
A group of people expect the Internet Gambling Bill to cause similar effects as Prohibition back in the 1920’s. Instead of helping society it will cause more conflicts.
Too much is involved in this issue. One is how to enforce it? Is the government really thinking that banks will monitor each single transaction to see if they are gambling related? Well, most banks in the US don’t allow gambling transactions. Today a US online gambler goes to his favorite gambling site and the chances of getting his debit/credit card approved might be 50 to 1. Is not impossible for a bank to verify if a check might be related to online gambling, or if a bank wire is actually a 10 team parlay payment, but doing this will require money, staff and some work. I am sure several banks will not invest funds to monitor online gambling transactions; unless the US government is willing to take money out of the citizens’ pockets to make sure America’s Second Worst Enemy is terminated.
And that’s a major bet from the US government. How are the people going to take this? Is this going to be another major waste of money just like the War on Drugs or the War on Terrorism? The War on Drugs has left nothing but tons of dead people and, if you didn’t know dear reader: EVERY YEAR DRUG CONSUMPTION INCREASES. People thought that investing millions of dollars against drug traffic will bring it to an end, but everyday kids are smoking Marijuana at younger ages, cocaine is as popular as McDonald’s Happy Meals among teenagers and drugs such as heroine, PCP, CrystalMeth are more present day by day in the American society. The War on Terrorism has only left a huge number of dead civilians, not counting the thousands of Iraqi people slaughtered. Other than that, what it has caused it’s a nation to become extremely paranoid and living in the shadow of fear.
Once again the government is probably going to invest money on a useless cause. Money which could be invested on helping the needed ones and improving medical care or the educational system will be spent on monitoring on what the US citizen spends his money earned by hard work. Basically they are been told in what they can spend their salaries and in what they can not. They better make this law flawless, because if an American goes to Panama and losses $2500 in Black Jack, he better report it and tax it else you are going 10 years to jail baby.
If you think about it, this will be 100% control on individual actions. How would you feel if you were going to the grocery store and all of a sudden you wouldn’t be allowed to buy gum since the government believes is not good for you? We all know gum is not good for you. It causes tooth decay and gastric problems, nevertheless; there are billions of things harmful to you and freely advertised and sold all along the US., from cigarettes to porn, on every American corner you will find the most harmful things.
Let’s get real; online gambling is not being banned to protect US citizens, nor to keep vices out of American homes, nor to keep kids off gambling or to avoid compulsive gambling. It’s all about the Benjamins in this plot. The US is worried and can’t stand billions of dollars leaving their territory without them collecting some sort of tax or profit. Why horse racing and state lotteries are excluded? Simple, they make tons of millions of dollars from Race Track taxes and from lotteries, just look at the name: State Lotteries. If you go to a Gamblers Anonymous meeting, you will find people with compulsive behavior regarding lotteries and horse betting as well.

Bad things you can expect from this could be street bookmaking again, which everyone knows leads to bigger debts, more crime and families suffering from an industry which will go back to prehistoric eras. Imagine college kids seeing a future on bookmaking, since they know online gambling is doomed… Just imagine some 20 year old kid with a clientele of 50 people hooked to his MSN messenger. The government actually thinks they will get rid of online gambling, they must be really under severe stress or strong medication. I believe history has been more than clear that when people like something and they are not allowed to do it, it becomes even more exciting.
Sunday Football, March Madness, NASCAR events, Kentucky Derby or even Politic Predictions will never get rid of some guy making up an odd for a favorite. Online gambling came to stay, is fun, nice and one of the most successful businesses in the world.
Every day that passes it seems that this country wants more enemies, more domestic problems and more useless reasons on what to focus their efforts. It’s really sad to see how many people actually believe they are on the correct path. As for me, I am about to start playing a $500 free roll at my favorite poker room.
