During the last months the U.S. government has focused big time on stopping the online gambling industry. Of course, horse wagering and state lotteries
...are allowed since they generate revenue to the country. However, since most online gambling is made off shore, these guys are a little bit pissed that not even $1 is left to them.

It all started probably with some guy learning that this industry provides jobs to hundreds of thousands of people out of the US and that per year it generates about $12 billion in revenue; reason why some greedy politician might have get pissed and wants everything for them.

These are no lies, economic stability is provided to countries such as Antigua and Costa Rica from this industry with the direct and indirect jobs that this industry generates.

Recently Bet on Sports, one of the largest gambling companies was closed down. This company used to be located at Mall San Pedro in San José, Costa Rica. After they shut down, a lot of companies were affected. They used to occupy half of the Mall San Pedro which probably caused major inconveniences to the owners of this building. Also, the foot court located at this Mall felt the reduction of 2000 people no longer eating here.  Even the clothes shops were affected. Thousands of youths, which used to work here, used spend at least half their salary in such stores.

Well, but back to the subject. How are you, the online gambler affected you? In a lot of ways. The recent called Unlawful Internet Gambling Act Enforcement affects you as part of a democratic system which supposedly relies in liberty and democracy.

You better check those definitions; the US seems not to provide this.  Basically they are ordering you where you can and where you can’t spend your money.  Also, if you had the freedom to place a wager online on your favourite NFL Sunday game, they want to change this.

They might say is in order to protect the American Family and Economy, but most of us know that is just some marketing technique since they are pissed they didn’t allow this amazing industry to develop in their territory.

Have you recently heard of several casinos giving money to politicians? Well is true; it seems that several Vegas Casinos are donating funds to politicians for their campaigns and these politicians are making huge efforts to stop the online gambling industry.  It seems that Las Vegas wants part of the cut as well.  Can you imagine all online gambling sites moving to Las Vegas and later online gambling is all of a sudden legal within the US territory?  That would be something.

The part where you are most affected is in your freedom.  This law expects to force you not to wager online and they are even thinking on monitoring your banking transactions as if you were a terrorist.  Is it me or does this just sound ridiculous? Apparently several banks are against this since they don’t want to focus efforts on detecting this.  They are right; there is no need to monitor such activities since they won’t harm anyone.  Never the less, several financial institutions have complied with US regulations and are stopping their services for online gamblers to fund their accounts.
For several people the recent happenings are proving of a non democratic country affecting economically other nations and not complying with international trading agreements.

I leave the question to you if the recent laws approved in the states are worth applying or not.
