U.K.-based Ukash, a new, e-wallet payment processor launched throughout Europe, is now being accepted by the leading online gambling companies. Online gaming fans are turning to Ukash for all of their playing and payment needs.
The company is fast emerging as a replacement for NetTeller. Online gaming leaders such as PartyPoker, 888.com, Bwin and Ladbrokes are all accepting Ukash as an alternative to making credit card or debit card payments online.
Ukash was first issued in Ireland, Germany, and Spain and in the U.K. But, it is now being expanded to include an additional 16 European countries, including Belgium, Austria, Portugal, Norway, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Latvia, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Sweden, Poland, Slovakia, Finland, Estonia and France.
Bank Sign-Up
Online gamblers interested in using Ukash, simply need to complete a paying-in slip at their nearest branch bank. Once that is done, an e-mail is sent out with an individual 19-digit Ukash voucher number, which can then be used at any top online gambling site. "Ukash has been a great success in the U.K., Ireland, Spain and Germany and I am sure that the expansion across Europe will ensure that the success story continues," said Mark Chirnside, chief executive officer of Ukash. A number of social networks such as Habbo Hotel, Stardoll, Faketown and IMVU have already signed up for the European e-payment service.
“There is potential for increasing cash spending levels and bringing in more paying members," said Justin Lunny, Ukash's director of sales and business development. “The feedback we’ve received is that transaction levels grow significantly, both in volume and value, whenever Ukash is offered as a payment option." There are currently 120,000 payment and purchase terminals operating in the U.K., Germany, Ireland and Spain, in newsagents, grocery stores, gas stations and other convenient locations. Unlike other pre-paid services, Ukash requires no "pre-registration" and is free to the consumer at the point of purchase, ensuring cash consumers are not discriminated against, said the company.
Customers exchange cash for Ukash at point of sale (POS), and then spend the value online at merchants displaying the Ukash payment brand. Ukash contains a secure and unique 19 digit code - to spend Ukash the consumer simply enters their 19 digit code and value when asked for payment details during the check-out process. The Ukash payment is then authorized in real-time, assuring payment to the social network operator and allowing the consumer to participate instantly.
According to Mattias Miksche, chief executive officer of Stardoll, “Ukash enables our users to buy our on-site currency, Stardollars, with cash: this helps even more members enjoy playing at all levels on Stardoll. We are excited about working with Ukash to deliver better service, more value and to make it easier for our members to fully enjoy the Stardoll experience".
